$4.5 Million USD. That’s how much this burgundy 1935 Duesenberg Model SJ Convertible Coupe by Walker LaGrande went for at the Amelia Island car auctions. The body was designed by J. Herbert Newport, and was revolutionary for its time with a semi-automatic convertible top, 17-inch wheels, and centrifugal supercharged, 320 horsepower engine that can reach 140 MPH.

Critics may be universally panning the latest Die Hard flick, but that doesn’t mean the action isn’t worth a watch. That’s because over 130 cars were destroyed during production, in what some writers are calling the “John McLane treatment.” Take that Bond! Watch some of the action below in the film’s official movie trailer.

The all-new 2014 Corvette C7 Stingray was unveiled last night at the Detroit Auto Show, resulting in worldwide feelings of envy and awe.
Inside a ramshackle industrial facility in northern Detroit, Chevrolet unveiled the 2014 Corvette C7, the model’s first overhaul in nine years. It contains a next-generation V8 engine, a small-block LT1 that combines several advanced technologies into one package and takes drivers from 0 to 60 in less than four seconds.
But for Corvette, this isn’t about statistics. “It’s more than just a sports car,” said GM design chief Ed Welburn. “It’s an emotion. It’s a passion. It is a vehicle that is larger than life.”
For those reasons, it was perhaps the perfect vehicle to headline the first night of the North American International Auto Show. After years of economic doldrums brought on by the Great Recession, the auto industry needed a larger-than-life icon to help celebrate more than 15 million units sold in 2012.
Hundreds of sports-car enthusiasts hooted and hollered Sunday night as Chevrolet pulled curtains back and revealed the C7 inside the Russell Industrial Center, which felt more like a nightclub than a factory. They lingered around the bright-red specimen displayed for more than an hour after the reveal. Autos AOL, 13 Jan 2013.

The Real Thing is a short film about a 1969 Mustang turned into a Mario Andretti approved horsepower heavy hybrid by Bodie Stroud. Well worth the six minutes it takes to watch. From the description: “The film follows the complex and creative build from its early stages, through its initial test drive all the way to an unveiling at the SEMA Car Show in Las Vegas where Bodie comes face to face with Mario Andretti himself.”

007 is the magic number for Bond fans, and the most recent installation in the movie franchise is Skyfall, filmed in Turkey, England, Macau, and Scotland. The movie required more than 80 cars for the production, none more beautiful than the original, and distinctive Bond car, the Aston Martin DB5.
Insurers were justifiably nervous about letting this priceless car out of the garage. View a complete gallery of images from Skyfall on Motor Trend.

Today’s post is dedicated to the weird, wacky, and wonderful world of wood cars. Wow. In all seriousness, the dedication it takes to create one of these unusual bits of art is mind-blowing. This isn’t just a hobby, it’s a way of life.
